In the context of the negotiations between Iran and the United States that began in Switzerland, tensions between the two countries have reached a critical level. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Iranian supreme leader, has threatened to sink American aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf, emphasizing that although warships are dangerous, Iran has weapons capable of destroying them.

Khamenei reaffirmed that the Islamic Republic will not be destroyed by the United States, despite the threats from President Donald Trump. The latter has mobilized air and naval forces in the Middle East to intimidate Tehran and has prepared attack options in case the discussions do not succeed.

The negotiations aim to limit Iran's nuclear program, and Iran is facing a crisis of internal legitimacy following the violent repression of anti-government protests.

The American delegation is led by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Iran is represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
