On November 21, 2025, two Romanians fled onto the runway of Cologne airport, trying to board a plane to Bucharest after missing their flight. They broke the glass protection of an emergency switch but were stopped by security personnel until the police arrived, who initiated criminal proceedings against them.
The incident was followed, on November 22, by a similar attempt by three British citizens, who opened the emergency exit of a plane, triggering the alarm. Although they were not officially charged, Cologne airport announced that opening emergency doors without valid reasons is prohibited. The airport reserves the right to take legal action, and the police emphasized that these consecutive incidents are remarkable. Neither the Romanians nor the British managed to board any planes.
