Hungary summoned the Russian ambassador in Budapest following a massive airstrike launched by Moscow against Ukraine, in which the Transcarpathia region, inhabited by a Hungarian and Romanian community, was severely affected.

The Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced that the meeting with the Russian ambassador is scheduled for May 14, where Foreign Minister Anita Orbán will condemn the attacks and call for an end to the war. Hungary's reaction was appreciated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who emphasized that Moscow represents a common threat to all of Europe. The attack on May 13-14 involved over 800 drones, resulting in at least six deaths and dozens of injuries, including children. The change in tone of the Hungarian government, under the leadership of Péter Magyar, reflects a desire to improve relations with Ukraine, which have been strained in the past.
