The Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that the air alert was activated at the request of the NATO Combined Air Operations Centre, marking the highest level of alert for such situations. Fighter jets took off to intercept an Airbus A321 that was crossing Hungarian airspace. Military pilots quickly established visual contact with the civilian aircraft, which later resumed radio communications with the Hungarian air traffic control authorities.

The Gripen aircraft, which are in air policing service, escorted the aircraft until it reached the border of Hungary's airspace, and it continued its flight to Prague, leaving Hungarian airspace. The Prime Minister praised the effective response of the military structures involved, emphasizing that no threats to flight safety were identified and the cause of the radio communication disruption remains unknown.
