According to a report from the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) at Uppsala University, the year 2025 recorded a record number of 65 armed conflicts, the highest since records began in 1946. The number of interstate conflicts doubled, reaching eight, including wars in Ukraine, Iran, Israel, India, and Pakistan.

Shawn Davies, a senior analyst at UCDP, highlights the increase in international tensions and changes in the global security order. In total, 13 of the conflicts were classified as wars, with over 1,000 battle-related deaths. Approximately 244,600 people died in organized violence, the highest number since the Rwandan genocide.

The war in Ukraine generated 94,700 deaths, accounting for 62% of the global total.

Violence against civilians has increased, especially in Sudan, where extensive massacres occurred.

Although conflicts between non-state groups have decreased, unilateral violence reached a record level, with 76,500 deaths in 2025.
