Mayor Kazumi Matsui's reaction comes in the wake of Trump's comparison between the 1945 bombings and the recent attacks on Iran. Matsui emphasized that Trump does not understand the gravity of the atomic bombs, which have resulted in massive human casualties and threaten the survival of the human species. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the only uses of nuclear weapons in the war, culminating in Japan's surrender and the end of World War II.
