The hens began colonizing Torrevieja's parks in 2014, when 40 were initially abandoned. They quickly multiplied to around 700, and local authorities have failed to capture or control them. Although the local council does not consider the chickens a danger, residents complain of filth and noise. A company won a contract to capture them but withdrew because of logistical difficulties. The council budgeted €26,000 to relocate the birds, but the process is proving complicated.
