The Greek police announced the arrest of 39 individuals as part of a large investigation into the fraud of European subsidies, coordinated by the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO). The investigation targets an estimated damage of several million euros to the European Union. On the morning of Tuesday, 17 individuals were arrested in northern Greece, particularly in Thessaloniki, and a day earlier, another 22 individuals were detained on the island of Crete. Among those arrested are accountants and managers of agricultural subsidy application management centers. This fraud scheme, active since 2019, has caused an estimated damage of 7.5 million euros just in 2025. EPPO is also investigating money laundering activities related to agricultural subsidies, and the scandal has led to the resignation of three ministers from Kyriakos Mitsotakis's government.
