An air defense system operated by Greek military personnel in Saudi Arabia successfully intercepted two ballistic missiles launched from Yemen on Saturday, which targeted the oil refineries in Yanbu. Greek security sources confirmed the interception, and the Saudi civil defense issued an emergency alert to warn residents of the danger.

Greece has deployed a Patriot air defense battery in Saudi Arabia since 2021, as part of an agreement to protect the kingdom's energy infrastructure. This is the second use of the system in real conditions.

Houthi rebels from Yemen claimed responsibility for recent attacks, escalating the conflict in the Middle East. Riyadh responded to the attacks on its oil tankers with bombings on Hodeida, a port controlled by the Houthis, promising a reaction to the attacks on civilian infrastructure.
