A Google DeepMind engineer of Palestinian origin has filed a complaint with the Employment Tribunal in the United Kingdom, accusing the company of unfair dismissal after he protested against the use of artificial intelligence in Israeli military operations.

He distributed leaflets in offices, claiming that Google provides military artificial intelligence to forces committing genocide. The engineer claims he was discriminated against based on his ethical beliefs and acted as a whistleblower. Google has rejected the allegations, stating that his account does not reflect the facts.

The case is part of a broader trend, with other researchers resigning on principled grounds following changes to the company's artificial intelligence policies. Protests are fueled by a $1.2 billion contract with the Israeli government, which has raised ethical concerns among employees.

The engineer's lawsuit is set to be heard, and Google has not provided further details.
