Michele Spagnuolo, an engineer employed at Google, was arrested in New York, accused of using the company's confidential information to place profitable bets on the Polymarket platform.

Prosecutors claim that Spagnuolo earned $1.2 million, using internal data accessible through a tool available to all employees. Although he is an Italian citizen and lives in Switzerland, he was brought before a federal judge in New York. Google has temporarily suspended the employee and is cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

Spagnuolo began using Polymarket in 2024, placing $2.7 million in bets related to Google, and the largest winnings came from correctly predicting the famous people searched on Google. Michele Spagnuolo was released on a $2.25 million bail.
