The German army is evaluating the possibility of using an abandoned villa, built by Joseph Goebbels in 1939, located by Lake Bogensee, near Berlin. This property, covering an area of approximately 16 hectares, is in an advanced state of disrepair and has not been used since 2000.
The spokesperson for the Bundeswehr's infrastructure agency mentioned that the authorities in the state of Brandenburg and the municipality of Wandlitz are intensively discussing the future of this property, considering the infrastructure needs of the army, in response to the current geopolitical situation and NATO requirements. Over the years, discussions have taken place about the reuse of the site, but a lack of funding has hindered projects. Recently, a fire affected a building of the former property, which was previously used by the youth organization of the Socialist Unity Party of former East Germany. The Berlin administration has allowed the free use of the property until 2027.
