On Friday afternoon, the PlayStation network is experiencing a global power outage, according to media reports and users on social networks. The problems began to appear suddenly, reaching a peak of over 3,300 reports on the DownDetector site around 1:30 PM. Users are complaining about the inability to connect to the online services of the PS4 and PS5 consoles, affecting access to games, the PlayStation Store, and messaging. Although the PlayStation service status page indicates that all services are operational, Sony has not yet provided an official comment regarding this outage.
This comes at a delicate time for the company, which recently announced the cessation of physical disc production for new games starting in January 2028, due to the increasing demand for digital games. The decision has sparked discontent among fans, who prefer to own physical copies of games. Analysts believe that this measure is not surprising, considering that digital sales have surpassed 80% of the total games sold by Sony in recent quarters.
