The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, expressed concerns regarding the negotiation abilities of the Iranians, emphasizing that they are stronger than anticipated. Merz mentioned that the Americans do not seem to have a convincing strategy to get out of this complicated situation, recalling the difficulties encountered in Afghanistan and Iraq.

He highlighted that the conflict in the Middle East has a significant economic impact on Germany, affecting economic production. Additionally, Merz reiterated Germany's offer to deploy mine sweepers to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but emphasized that this depends on the cessation of hostilities. The statements were made during an educational activity at the Carolus-Magnus-Gymnasium, dedicated to the European Union.
