Johann Wadephul, the head of German diplomacy, stated that Russia continues to be the greatest threat to security and freedom in Europe, in the context of his visits to Latvia and Sweden. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation in Ukraine, where millions of people are affected by Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure.

Wadephul insisted that the debates within NATO should not distract from the necessary support for Ukraine and highlighted the importance of European presence at the negotiating table. He also underscored the crucial role of the Baltic region in Europe's security, mentioning the hybrid threats posed by Russia. Wadephul condemned Russia's obstinacy regarding territorial claims and emphasized the need for immediate action to protect critical infrastructures. Finally, he acknowledged Sweden's contribution to northern European security, especially after its accession to NATO.
