Johann Wadephul, the German foreign minister, stated that the risk of an attack on a NATO member state cannot be ignored, following the Iranian drone attack on a British airbase in Cyprus. The Akrotiri base was attacked on Sunday, and two other drones were intercepted later.

Cyprus, although a member of the European Union, is not part of NATO. Wadephul emphasized that Germany reserves the right to act defensively, but reaffirmed that it will not participate in military confrontations in the Middle East and will not provide military facilities for this purpose.

At the same time, the US and Israel have intensified actions against Iran, leading to an escalation of tensions in the region. Wadephul insisted on the necessity of continuing negotiations to resolve the conflict with Iran.
