With a significant dependence on the automotive industry, Germany is expanding its presence in the lithium industry. The country's first lithium refinery will be built in Bitterfeld-Wolfen and will import lithium from Brazil to produce lithium hydroxide, used in batteries for electric car batteries. German companies like BASF are also exploring lithium processing projects in Chile.
