The German Foreign Ministry emphasized that for months, the Georgian leadership has been conducting a campaign against the EU and Germany, accusing the ambassador of promoting a "radical agenda" ahead of the local elections on October 4.

In recent months, Georgian officials have accused Fischer and other EU ambassadors of supporting attempts to overthrow the government in Tbilisi, in the context of which the authorities have launched a campaign of repression against the pro-EU opposition and protesters.
