Der Spiegel reported that on the night of March 10, a military base in Al-Azraq, Jordan, was attacked with rockets, without any casualties being reported. The rockets, launched from Iran, targeted an area where Bundeswehr soldiers and United States Air Force personnel are located. Although one of the projectiles hit a building designated for the German contingent, the soldiers were in shelters at the time of the attack, so no one was injured.
The extent of the damage is still unclear, and the Operational Command of the German Armed Forces has confirmed that the incident is under investigation. The base in Al-Azraq, where Germany participates in the international coalition against the Islamic State, has been attacked previously, and the number of German soldiers has been reduced in the context of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
