The German government is scaling back its plans to scrap aid for asylum seekers who entered another EU country before coming to Germany.

However, parties in the coalition led by Social Democrat Olaf Scholz added exceptions, keeping the provision only under certain conditions. The amended text is due to be debated in parliament by Friday.
