The police in Russia detained a German citizen on Monday, suspected of donating 900 rubles (approximately 10 dollars) to the Anti-Corruption Fund, associated with the late opposition leader, Alexei Navalny.
The detention took place in St. Petersburg, and the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the donation was directed to an organization considered extremist, given that Navalny's fund has been labeled as such since 2021.
The German citizen, co-founder of a gym in the city, was a professional cyclist in Germany before moving to Russia. According to some sources, he is a Russian with German citizenship, settled in Russia for ten years.
In recent months, Russian authorities have opened over 220 criminal cases for donations to Navalny's fund, after the organization was banned. This detention comes after the arrest of a 58-year-old philosopher, also accused of donations to the anti-corruption fund.
