Recent fires in the south of France have devastated some 16,000 hectares, destroying homes, sheds and vines. Agriculture minister Annie Genevard announced an €8m emergency fund to compensate affected farmers. In addition, tax exemptions and financial advances will be offered to support reconstruction. Local leaders are calling for a special status for winegrowers and a national investment plan to tackle climate change.
