The French government will support wine growers affected by the fires in the south of the country with €8 million to compensate for crop and infrastructure losses.

Recent fires in the south of France have devastated some 16,000 hectares, destroying homes, sheds and vines. Agriculture minister Annie Genevard announced an €8m emergency fund to compensate affected farmers. In addition, tax exemptions and financial advances will be offered to support reconstruction. Local leaders are calling for a special status for winegrowers and a national investment plan to tackle climate change.
