President Emmanuel Macron announced that he will vote against signing the agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur countries, arguing that it is outdated and negotiated on obsolete bases. Moreover, he emphasized that, although diversifying trade is important, the economic benefits of this agreement will be limited for the economic growth of France and Europe.

France, along with Poland, has been a vocal opponent of the agreement, but does not have enough votes to block it. Additionally, French farmers protested in Paris against this agreement, in the context where the European Commission proposed financial measures to gain the support of farmers. Macron promised that he will continue to fight for the protection of French farmers' interests and for the implementation of the commitments made by the European Commission.
