France has managed to reduce the budget deficit more than expected, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (Insee). In 2025, the budget deficit stood at 5.1% of GDP, down from 5.8% in 2024, exceeding the Government's estimates, which anticipated a deficit of 5.4%.

The executive also proposes to reduce the deficit to 5% of GDP this year, with the aim of reaching the 3% ceiling set by the EU by 2029. France's public debt has slightly increased, reaching 115.6% of GDP, compared to 112.6% in 2024, below the Government's forecast of 115.9%. Additionally, the French economy recorded a growth of 0.9% in 2025, after an advance of 1.1% in 2024, suggesting better economic performance than anticipated.
