The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, stated that his country is ready to participate in the defense of the Gulf countries and Jordan, which have been targets of Iran's attacks. Barrot expressed France's solidarity with the affected nations, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, emphasizing that they have been involved in a conflict they did not choose. He also criticized the unilateral attacks by Israel and the US on Iran, suggesting that such actions should be discussed within international organizations, such as the UN. Barrot mentioned that approximately 400,000 French citizens are in the region, but no casualties have been reported so far.
In the context of the escalating conflict, he called for de-escalation and warned that prolonged military operations could lead to instability throughout the region. He also urged the Hezbollah group to stop attacks against Israel, highlighting the devastating impact on the Lebanese population.
