French authorities have identified at least 25 cyber operations carried out by foreign actors, including the Russian group Storm-1516, in the context of the recent elections. An official from the security agency stated that these interference attempts included the creation of fake websites, promises of money in the names of politicians, and campaigns aimed at destabilizing and discrediting political institutions. Foreign actors, some with ties to Russia, China, or Iran, have attempted to influence perceptions of democracy in France. This strategy was recently observed during the national mobilization on September 10, when certain pro-Russian and pro-Iranian groups opportunistically exploited the movement on social media.
