France continues to reject the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, despite some recent concessions from Brussels. The spokesperson for the French Government, Maud Bregeon, stated that although progress has been made after France set requirements for the European Commission, the agreement is still unacceptable. Even if a majority is obtained among the member states on Friday, Bregeon emphasized that the European Parliament has the capacity to block the agreement through a vote or by referring it to the EU Court of Justice.

France also expresses dissatisfaction especially regarding the clauses that regulate imports from Mercosur, wanting to ensure that phytosanitary standards are respected. Bregeon characterized the agreement as being 'from another time', emphasizing that it is outdated.
