Joseph M., a former top banker at HSBC, was sentenced in London for fraud related to railway travel after traveling without a ticket more than 740 times between October 2023 and September 2024. Using a fraudulent ticket purchasing method, he saved approximately 6,000 Swiss francs (6,360 euros) by only purchasing tickets for the departure and destination stations, skipping the intermediate stations.

At Inner London Crown Court, M. pleaded guilty, and Judge Alexander Stein sentenced him to ten months of suspended imprisonment and 80 hours of community service. The former banker must also pay approximately 5,200 francs in compensation to Southeastern Railway and was banned from accessing that railway route for one year. The judge noted that M. voluntarily ceased these practices before being caught. After the trial, M. tried to avoid photographs by changing his clothes.
