Steffen Seibert, former ambassador of Germany to Tel Aviv, launched severe criticism against the Israeli government, especially regarding the colonization policy in the occupied West Bank.
In an interview with the German magazine Die Zeit, Seibert described colonization as a form of expulsion that involves psychological and physical violence.
He clarified that Germany's commitment to Israel applies only within the framework of internationally recognized borders, emphasizing that support does not extend to the settlements in the Jordan Valley, which are considered illegal under international law.
Seibert highlighted the necessity to respect the right of the Israeli people to live in their state, but emphasized that Germany's support does not include the occupation actions that have lasted for nearly 60 years.
