Jacques Delors, former head of the European Commission, has died at the age of 98. Delors was a driving force behind the European project.

Jacques Delors led the European Commission for three terms as one of the main architects of European integration, laying the foundations for the single currency and a free internal market for all EU countries. Delors was also France's finance minister.
