In Indonesia, dozens of schools were closed on Tuesday, for the second consecutive day, due to smoke from forest fires affecting the archipelago.

Almost 48,000 firefighters are mobilized across the country to combat the fires, especially in West Kalimantan, where the mayor of Pontianak has ordered the closure of schools. Students will learn remotely until air quality improves. In eastern Java, the fire in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park has devastated nearly 900 hectares.

Local authorities are mobilizing resources, including helicopters, to extinguish the fires. The Minister of Security announced the mobilization of 43 helicopters and 15 planes for cloud seeding operations, aimed at triggering rain. It is estimated that, due to the El Nino phenomenon, Indonesia will face a severe dry season, and over 107,000 hectares of land have burned since the beginning of the year.
