The NGO Alliance4Europe has denounced the reactivation of a network operated from abroad, which was previously used to influence the elections in the Netherlands, to support content favorable to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on platform X, ahead of the parliamentary elections in Hungary.
The NGO claims that the network, consisting of several hundred fake accounts mainly managed from Nigeria and other West African and Asian countries, has been used to amplify far-right, pro-Russian, and anti-system content. First identified during the Dutch parliamentary elections in October 2025, the network has been observed using the same modus operandi before the elections in Hungary in April 2026. The accounts operate automatically and in a coordinated manner to manipulate the algorithms of platform X, providing increased visibility to pro-Orbán accounts.
The electoral campaign in Hungary has been marked by accusations of interference from Moscow, with evidence of Russia's efforts to support Orbán, who is running for a fifth term.
