Fitch Ratings has upgraded Bulgaria's rating, raising it from 'BBB' to 'BBB plus' for long-term debt, and from 'F2' to 'F1' for short-term debt, with a stable outlook. This follows the EU's decision to allow Bulgaria to adopt the euro from January 1, 2026. Fitch believes that adopting the single currency will bring economic benefits such as reduced currency risks and access to ECB liquidity. It also expects Bulgaria's GDP to grow by 2.8% in 2025, with a possible acceleration after euro accession.
