Two helicopters used for extinguishing vegetation fires in Athens collided in the air during the mission.

Two helicopters rented by the fire service in Greece collided in the air during an intervention to extinguish a vegetation fire, in the area of the town of Psatha, in the Attica region, according to Greek authorities.

The helicopters had two crew members on board and took off from Elefsina military airport. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that the country is facing extreme weather conditions that affect the ability to intervene. He emphasized that strong winds prevent firefighting aircraft from operating safely, noting that, at these moments, nature surpasses human planning. Vegetation fires are affecting several regions in Europe, and the situation remains critical.
