Wray, in office since August 2017, announced he would resign in January before the new president is sworn in. The decision comes as Donald Trump plans to replace him with Kash Patel, a close aide. Wray has explained that his resignation is aimed at keeping the FBI focused on its mission while avoiding getting involved in the political fray.
