Around 5:15 PM, two trains heading south towards St. Pancras station in London collided near the town of Bedford. The British Transport Police confirmed that the incident has been declared major, and emergency teams have been mobilized, including an air ambulance. Unfortunately, one person has died, and 11 have suffered very serious injuries, 22 have been seriously injured, and 56 have minor injuries. The deceased victim has been identified as a locomotive engineer. Transport Minister Heidi Alexander expressed concern over the incident. The railway operator East Midlands Railway announced that train services to and from London will be suspended for the rest of the day, and the lines between Luton and Bedford are blocked. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the affected area.
