René Redzepi, chef and co-founder of the Noma restaurant in Denmark, has resigned following serious allegations of verbal and physical abuse, on the very day of the opening of an exclusive residency in Los Angeles. His decision was influenced by the testimonies of dozens of former employees, who described a toxic work environment, with threats and mistreatment.
Redzepi acknowledged his unacceptable behaviors, apologizing to those affected and mentioning that he has undergone therapy to manage his anger. The scandal had a negative impact on the restaurant, which was preparing for an event with ticket prices of $1,500 per person, and major sponsors withdrew. Protests took place outside the venue, highlighting the suffering of employees in the industry.
