A Greek military F-4E Phantom II jet crashed on Saturday at around 3 p.m. during an air demonstration held in Tanagra, north of Athens. Two pilots were on board, and authorities have not yet announced whether they managed to escape.
The accident occurred during the first two minutes of the demonstration, outside the takeoff and landing runway, while hundreds of spectators watched the aircraft’s performance from a short distance. Witnesses said the jet appeared to break in two, after which a fire broke out.
Firefighters intervened to put out the blaze, while a helicopter dropped water over the affected area. Following the crash, the “Athens Flying Week” event was suspended. Organizers and authorities asked spectators to leave the area as emergency teams conducted operations at the crash site.
