A drone loaded with explosives was shot down on Tuesday at the German Leipzig/Halle airport by a bus driver, according to statements from CDU deputy Detlef Seif. The driver noticed the drone flying at a low altitude and struck it with his foot, causing it to crash.

Leipzig/Halle airport is an important hub for NATO logistics and cargo transport, being used by companies such as DHL. Prosecutors discovered that the explosives in the drone were of a professional type, and the federal prosecutor's office has opened a terrorism investigation.

The incident was only made known on Wednesday, and authorities have not disclosed the identity of the driver or the origin of the drone. The Minister of the Interior of Saxony praised the intervention but emphasized that it is not a behavior to be followed. The drone was found near some Antonov An-124 cargo planes, among the largest in the world.
