A tanker reported two explosions in the Strait of Hormuz, near Oman. The crew escaped unharmed.

A maritime incident was reported on Thursday in the Strait of Hormuz, when the captain of an oil tanker signaled that he heard two explosions during the crossing.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that the incident occurred approximately 16 km southeast of Kumzar, in Oman.

Fortunately, the crew and the vessel were declared safe, with no environmental damage.

This incident occurs in a context of regional tensions, with Iran having de facto control over the Strait of Hormuz and accusing vessels of not following authorized routes. Currently, Tehran and Muscat are in discussions for the joint management of this strategic maritime route, essential for oil transport.
