The White Sage Fire, sparked by lightning on July 9, has devastated more than 400 acres at the North Rim, advancing toward Jacob Lake. Authorities ordered the immediate evacuation of all visitors and closed State Route 89A. Extreme temperatures and high winds are complicating the situation, and the National Park Service has issued a heat alert. Also, a 67-year-old tourist died at the South Rim due to extreme heat. Fires are also affecting other parks in the western US.
