The Minister of Mineral Resources of Greenland expressed his appreciation for the reactions of the European countries targeted by the tariff threats of American President Donald Trump, who suggested imposing tariffs on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland. He stated that he is grateful and optimistic that diplomacy will prevail. European leaders, including Emmanuel Macron and Jonas Gahr Støre, condemned Trump's threats, considering them unacceptable.
Trump reiterated his desire to control Greenland, arguing that this would counteract the influence of Russia and China in the Arctic. A recent poll shows that 85% of Greenlanders oppose the takeover of the island by the USA. In this context, several European countries have deployed military personnel in Greenland for the Danish exercise "Arctic Endurance," a strategic signal to Washington.
