A few days before the Putin-Trump summit, the European Parliament issued a joint statement emphasizing that no peace talks in Ukraine are valid without the participation of the democratically elected leadership. They welcome efforts for a lasting peace based on international law, but insist that ignoring Ukraine's wishes will not lead to a viable solution.
