The European Parliament has called for electricity grids to be strengthened and interconnections developed, highlighting infrastructure vulnerabilities after the blackout on the Iberian Peninsula.

MEPs underlined the vulnerability of European electricity grids in the wake of the blackouts in Spain and Portugal, calling on the European Commission to prioritize upgrading infrastructure and cross-border interconnections. The adoption of the text by 418 votes calls for the implementation of the EU's €584 billion network and investment action plan for networks by 2030. Sturgkh stressed the importance of effective planning and easier access to EU funds for modernizing electricity grids.
