On Wednesday, the European Commission will launch its budget proposal for the period 2028-2034, provoking difficult negotiations, especially over the CAP. Member states, already weakened, are reluctant to contribute to common funds as spending rises. Parliament calls for a more ambitious budget, but CAP reforms raise concerns. The commission is also seeking new sources of funding, including taxes on big business and e-waste. Negotiations will take months, but are expected to conclude quickly, as usual.
