The population of the European Union could decrease by approximately 11.7% by the year 2100, which means about 53 million inhabitants, according to the latest estimates from Eurostat.

This change will profoundly affect the social structure, with estimates suggesting that one in three Europeans will be over 65 years old, putting pressure on labor markets and pension systems.

The decline will not be uniform: some countries will lose massive populations, with Romania being among the most affected, with an estimated reduction of nearly a quarter of the current total.

While some countries like Germany or France will experience moderate declines, and others even increases, in Eastern Europe the decline will be much more pronounced, with losses of over 30% in certain states.

By 2100, the segment of people over 85 years old could triple, while the active population will decrease, affecting national economies.
