The Eurobarometer Flash survey shows that democracy and economic power are the main strengths of the EU, and the war in Ukraine is the biggest challenge.

According to the latest Eurobarometer Flash survey, respect for democracy, human rights, and the rule of law (36%) and the economic, industrial, and commercial power of the European Union (31%) are considered the main strengths of the EU. Additionally, 28% of respondents emphasize the importance of relationships and solidarity among member states. Regarding values, more than half of Europeans believe that the EU best represents respect for fundamental rights and freedom of expression (55% for each), as well as equality and social welfare (52%).


The war in Ukraine is perceived as the main current challenge for the EU, mentioned by 47% of respondents. Regarding future global challenges, international conflicts (41%), irregular migration (35%), and climate change (31%) are the most frequently mentioned, while the risk of losing influence on the global stage is a new concern, with 30% of responses. The survey was conducted between September 3-10, 2025, with the participation of 25,893 citizens from the 27 EU member states.
