The sanctions target associates of Ilan Shor, a pro-Russian politician, and members of his successor parties for involvement in electoral corruption schemes. The measures include asset freezes and travel bans for those sanctioned. In the run-up to the September 28 parliamentary elections, President Maia Sandu is accusing Russia of meddling, while Moscow denies the allegations and accuses the West of influence.
