The European Union and Australia are set to finalize negotiations for a trade agreement, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen planning a visit to Canberra between March 23 and 25.

She will meet with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and the Commissioner for Trade, Maroš Šefčovič, will also accompany the visit, although plans may be subject to changes due to flight disruptions in the Middle East.

The agreement will facilitate access to essential raw materials, such as lithium and cobalt, and will strengthen Europe's presence in dynamic economic regions. The EU and Australia also intend to finalize a partnership in the field of security and defense, with the signing of a security partnership agreement.
