The state oil company of Norway, Equinor, recorded a record profit of 11.5 billion dollars in the second quarter of 2026, nearly double compared to the same period last year, exceeding analysts' estimates. This increase is due to the decision to raise oil and gas production after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the rise in Brent oil prices, which fluctuated between 75 and 100 dollars per barrel. Although prices temporarily dropped after a ceasefire memorandum between the US and Iran, they rose again due to the resumption of bombings. Equinor's president, Anders Opedal, emphasized the importance of energy supply in the context of geopolitical tensions. Additionally, Houthi rebels in Yemen announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, leading to a new increase in energy prices. Brent oil prices reached 95 dollars per barrel on Wednesday, reflecting the increased supply risks.
